Vera Wang was also a big winner, earning the coveted CFDA lifetime achievement award, which was presented to her by Ralph Lauren, her former boss. Wang had the following to say as she collected her prize, "To all the women and men I have dressed, thank you for your trust."
There was no shortage of celebrities at the ceremony, with actress Jessica Chastain presenting the international award to Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci. Actress Kerry Washington handed a trophy to Proenza's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. As she did so, fashion enthusiasts delighted in Washington's yellow, square-neck gown by Jason Wu. The move was a diplomatic one, as Washington was unsure to whom she would be presenting, and Wu was not nominated this year, thus ensuring no hurt feelings would occur.
Hailee Steinfeld was also present, wearing a crystal-covered outfit from Suno. She presented alongside her "Romeo and Juliet" costar Douglas Booth. They announced the winners of the emerging talent awards, which included Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis of Suno, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School, and Pamela Love.
The event continued with the relatively new tradition featuring designers bringing actresses and models who regularly wear their clothes as their dates. This paparazzi-friendly move had Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein bringing Rooney Mara, Michael Kors taking Karolina Kurkova, and Erin Wasson on the arm of Alexander Wang.
Sarah Kirinsky had the following to say about the awards and the attire, "Metallics ruled fashion's main event with standouts model Karolina Kurkova in a metallic silver short set by Michael Kors and Nicole Richie in a Marc Jacobs gold backless dress. Definitely worth a notable mention in this year's hottest color, Sofia Vergara radiated in an emerald green Herve L. Leroux gown paired with a knockout Lorraine Schwartz necklace dripping with emeralds and diamonds. Victoria's Secret models Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, and Adriana Lima were truly angelic in Kaufmanfranco, Proenza Schouler, and Givenchy."
Another show stopping entrance belonged to Linda Evangelista, who donned a black strapless Oscar de la Renta gown. Karma Couture praises the unique and beautiful fashion choices of those in attendance at this year's CFDA awards.
