Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire Voted Best Mountaineering and Skiing Watch for 2013 at HRWC

The Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire has been voted the best mountaineering and alpine skiing watches for 2013 at the Heart Rate Watch Company.

"When it comes to mountaineering and skiing our testing grounds here in Montana have a plethora of both", says Rusty Squire, world 12 hour skiing vertical record holder and President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, "The Sapphire crystal makes this watch scratch-proof and it will take anything you throw at it - granite is no problem".

15 HOURS AT ONE SECOND RECORDING

The Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire will do 15 hours on a single charge at one second recording intervals, which is necessary for speed and distance accuracy while doing faster sports, like skiing, according to Squire. He adds, "If you are climbing a big peak at slower speeds you can go to 1 minute recording intervals and get 45 hours of battery life per charge".

THE GOAL ZERO MOUNTAINEERING SOLUTION

"Most big peak mountaineering expeditions are pretty wired and run off electronics these days," says Squire. The need to charge GPS watches, satellite phones, iPhones and other electronics which makes the Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus Mobile Kit a great solution.

John Yarington was charging his phone and GPS watch several times with the Goal Zero Guide 10 battery pack which recharges with a small 1 1/2 pound solar panel. "It's an awesome set-up for back country folks because you can charge as you hike," says Squire.

AMBIT 2 SAPPHIRE NAVIGATION, MAPPING and WEATHER

Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire has both a ski and a mountaineering mode, making setup minimal and operation easy for up to 12 different sports including cycling, trail running and more. "The track back feature gives you the ability to see if you are on the route you came in on, which is super slick for back country adventures because you know if you have deviated from your route," says Squire.

Up to 1,000 available apps allow you to select and run up to 5 apps at a time on the watch. "There are apps for weather, skiing and virtually everything under the sun but you need to be picky with the apps since many were user developed," says Squire.

"The post adventure maps are high detail and serve as a superb catalog fro your adventure with up to 100 way points," says Squire.

The Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire is available in limited quantities from the Heart Rate Watch Company.
